In case you were wondering what the FireIce Units are....

Implemented as of 12/23/2013.

Designated/trained units and Con Ed are jointly piloting A FireIce Gel-Solution program using a powder when added to water produces a firefighting gel for the purpose of insulating and extinguishing burning cables at manhole fires and reducing levels of carbon monoxide which may extend into surrounding properties. Only for use with Class C (Electrical) fire and NOT Class B (Which includes a Transformer fire).

The participating units are special trained and carry the associated product and special equipment: E33, E62, E82, E84, E163, E228, E229, E319 and E326.

Members should be aware that the product can cause a slipping hazard within the operation area.

In case you wondered what it looked like.  The only thing missing from the second picture is the inductor tube which attaches to the bottom of the inductor and goes into the bucket of fireice.  The third picture shows what the product looks like soon after water is added.
