In 1997 the Oshkosh Corporation delivered a new ARFF unit to the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority. As Foam 331 it was stationed at Ronald Reagan National Airport.

With the Pentagon's ARFF equipment heavily damaged, Foam 331 was the first to arrive and operate on the burning wreckage of American Airlines Flight 77 on September 11, 2001. Historic initial photos show it seen to the left of the plane in front of the Pentagon. In a classic pose, it is whaling away with its' roof and bumper turrets blazing.

Honoring 9/11 First Responders, Foam331 now resides in the National Air and Space Museum Steven F. Udar-Hazy Center adjacent to Dulles International Airport in Chantilly, Virginia.
