Earlier today the Merrick and Freeport Fire Departments operated on the scene of a boat fire on the Meadowbrook State Parkway. The owner of the boat was able to detach his vehicle before the fire spread to it. Text & photo courtesy K2M Photography.

Someone I know almost accidentally set his boat on fire on the road. He was running to the keys with his brand new boat on a trailer. Got a flat on the trailer and changed it. Threw the tire in the boat as his truck was loaded with suitcases, and gear. Little while later, happened to see smoke coming his boat. Apparently the tire was smoldering from failing, and the wind over the boat fanned it to the point the fiberglass was smoldering. He managed to put it out before it destroyed his boat.
