Gator Type Vehicles

I know that EMS has gator type vehicles that are designed to respond to large public events where conventional ambulances might be slowed down by the tight spaces. Does FDNY have any gator type vehicles for fire-fighting in similar situations ?

One 2004 Polaris Ranger 6x6 ATV is at Engine 164 in Staten Island and has multiple capabilities: brush firefighting, transportation of Incident Commanders, reconnaissance at large-scale or difficult terrain incidents, emergency response at public events, and mobile fire-safety centers. It has a 120 GPM at 60 psi/20 GPM at 155 psi Darley pump driven by a 9 hp gasoline engine and has a 75 gallon water tank. The hose complement includes 70 feet of ¾-inch hose on a reel and 300 feet of forestry hose

A second ATV is at Engine 168, a 2014 a John Deere XUV855D Gator with a Curtis enclosed cab. The Gator carries a Kimtek FireLite FDH-203 Skid Unit which includes a 75 gallon tank, a Darley-Davey 5.5 hp 20 GPM/80 PSI pump with one 1½-inch and two 1-inch discharges powered by a Honda GX160 engine, a booster reel with 70 feet of ¾-inch hose, and space for one stretcher.

Two Kubota ATV’s are in service as Decon Special Event Units. They are at Hazmat Operations, Randalls Island.

The four units described may be used where ever required, but have not been regularly assigned to tight space operations.

Also the BFU ATVs at 164 and 168 are not used for brush fire capabilities anymore, special events only or special called.

Yes I believe most if not all Staten Island engines have them, BFU has about 3 or 4…. I know some Manhattan engines have them aswell can’t speak for other boros

Where I was brought up in the fire service we always called them "Indian Tanks" not Indian cans, which is the true nomenclature they use in FDNY?
