On January 29, at approximately 11:06 p.m., the Hampton Division of Fire and Rescue (HDFR) received a call from a passerby for a residential structure fire in the 50 block of Tidewater Drive. Units were dispatched and arrived on scene at approximately 11:15 p.m.
Upon arrival, crews found the fire fully involved with smoke and flames visible, and several vehicles on fire near the residence. Crews began an aggressive attack on the fire, but the residence’s rural surroundings posed a water-supply challenge for extinguishing the fire. HDFR requested mutual aid from Langley Air Force Base to provide a tanker truck to increase the water supply.
Once the fire was under control, one adult was found deceased in the home. Several dogs were found unharmed in their normal living quarters outside the residence, and the Hampton Animal Response Team was dispatched to care for and ensure their safety. The fire was marked out at approximately 12:40 a.m. HDFR crews remain on scene, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Fire Marshal’s office.
