They respond to Fires if Hazardous Materials may be involved .....they are not supposed to be involved in regular non HM structural FF but they do work at certain HM based Fires .....they all have previous FDNY FF backgrounds in Line Units....nobody goes to HM from Proby School.....they did suffer a tremendous loss at the WTC.Charging in 113 said:Does hazmat 1 go to fires? Or are they strictly hazardous material calls???
1 of the reasons they can't do that is because there is only 1 of them. What if they were committed to a 2nd alarm fire and suddenly a major hazmat incidents occurred? They are like any specialized unit and need to be available when needed.fdny747 said:I was wondering and think they should respond on all 2 and greater alarms in commercial buildings, also they have a lot of equipment Rescue has so why not use them more then the city does?
