On the nycdcas site to states that a heavy rescue bids is due in March. I wonder if the rescues are being replaced already??

Probably to replace the Spares / Reserves as the Ferrara's always seem to be OOS  ;D

Joking aside anytime you seem to see Photos or Videos of Rescues they are using Spares and having Visited R1 twice, R2 & R4 Twice they where always in Spares when i was there

It's too bad Pierce won't bid.  If I'm not mistaken, the 2007 Pierce that R1 had and is now in the spare pool was the best rig they've had since the Macks went away.

I wonder if FDNY or NYC would consider changing some of the stipulations that are in their bidding criteria in order to get Pierce to bid?  I've heard the same thing about that rig.

Yea, hope Pierce bids. Not only do they look the best, but they are the highest quality from what I've heard.

Pierce apparatus is not the high quality rig that they built in the 1980's. I worked at a Pierce dealership and heard loads of complaints from dissatisfied FD's.

The Pierce Rescue was purchased with federal grant money. Pierce was the only vendor on the government contract who could provide that. It didn't go out to bid, and, as a result, some specs were waived.

For Pierce to be a contender for the FDNY Contract, they would have to first develop a stainless steel, split tilt cab. A big thing for a relatively small order of 5 trucks, unless they plan on going after FDNY business in the future, which I HIGHLY doubt will ever happen again.

Pierce isn't that great these days!
Don't say that to a lot of the guys who swear by them!  Many firefighters and fire departments will tell you that the Pierce rigs a buy today are as good as the old Mack's that everybody swears by!

Everybody makes lemons, though.  Our local FD has bought nothing but Pierce for almost 10 years now (with all 1st line apparatus being Pierce), but there's more than one "hangar queen" that spends more time in the shops than it does in service.

Miami-Dade purchased only Pierce for many years. They now purchase Rosenbauer pumpers and Sutphen Tower Ladders.
