On the night of Wed., January 11th, the Hempstead Fire Dept. was dispatched to a report of a house fire on Clinton St. Fire Alarm Central advised responding units that multiple calls were being received reporting the fire and when firefighters arrived on scene they were met with fire showing from the second floor of a two-story occupied multiple dwelling. A working fire was transmitted, and mutual aid requested. Firefighters put three hand lines into operation and had the main body of fire quickly knocked down; however, extensive overhaul was needed due to heavy clutter throughout the original fire apartment. All occupants made it safely out of the building and the cause of the fire is currently under investigation. Hempstead Chief of Dept.
