FDNY's fireboat "The Firefighter" which had been restored and docked at the Mystic Seaport Musuem in Mystic, Ct needs a new home.
The Firefighter, the most decorated fireboat in the world is on the hunt for a new home.
It has been owned by the non-profit group "Fireboat Firefighter Musuem" since 2012 and was brought to the museum in 2021 but now needs to relocate by May 2026.
A spokesperson for the museum said, it is our standard practice to welcome visiting vessels like the Firefighter on a temporary rotating basis to enhance the visitors at the museum.
An unpaid restorer, preserver, and steward of the boat said that the seaport had explained that it never intended the Firefighter to be a permanent exhibit, but he was hopeful the boat would be able to make short term trips to Mystic in the future.
The fireboat built a stored legacy during its many years of service in New York City and fought countless fires, including one aboard the French ocean liner Normandie in 1942 which killed 100 and injured approximately 275 people.
The "Firefighter" spent three weeks pumping water to firetrucks at the World Trade Center site after the September 11, 2001, terrorist attack.
The "Firefighter" was retired and replaced with the FDNY Boat "Fire Fighter II" in 2010 after 72 years of service.
