Three Indianapolis firefighters and two EMS personnel were taken to hospitals Wednesday after suffering from carbon monoxide poisoning. Initially an IFD Engine company an IEMS medic were dispatched for an unconscious person in the basement of a residence. An additional engine company had to be requested for manpower in getting the patient out of the home. Upon exiting firefighters began feeling faint and lightheaded. A ladder truck was called to the scene to check CO levels in the home. Their meter maxed out at 499ppm. The paramedic from the EMS crew remained at scene experiencing symptoms of CO exposure, the EMT transported the initial patient to the hospital along with members of the second engine company. While at the hospital the EMT began experiencing symptoms. The cause was a construction crew using a gasoline powered saw to cut concrete in the basement of the home.
