Indianapolis fire fighters rescue teen who got stuck in tree trying to rescue a cat
Rescue workers were able to retrieve a 17-year-old who was stuck 35 feet off the ground
Even rescuers need to be rescued sometimes.
The Indianapolis Fire Department rescued a 17-year-old who had gotten stuck on a tree branch 35 feet off the ground. The teenager climbed the tree after noticing a cat sitting on one of the higher branches, seemingly stuck.
While attempting to rescue the cat, he himself became stuck.
The Indianapolis Fire Department posted about the incident on Facebook, writing "Tactical Rescue 14 was dispatched to Holliday Park on Spring Mill Rd after a young man found himself stuck in a tree while trying to rescue a cat. 17-year-old Owen, told firefighters that he was trying to do a good deed and bring the cat to safety after noticing him in the tree about 35 feet up."

The post continues, "While Owen had no trouble climbing up the tree - his positioning did not allow the same ease for getting down. IFD Engine 32 was initially dispatched and once on scene, requested the rope rescue team. In all it took about 1 hour after Tac Team arrival to bring Owen down to safety at 6:36 PM."
While the rescue was successful, the fire crew did experience some difficulties due to the condition of the ground around the tree.

"Crews were unable to simply utilize an aerial ladder due to the ground being too soft to hold the weight of the truck without it getting stuck," the post states. "Once safely on the ground, Owen was checked by IEMS Medic 32 and released with approval of his parents. Other than a few scrapes, he was perfectly fine."
Meanwhile, the fate of the cat is unclear.
According to the fire department, "The cat seemed to enjoy the commotion but literally made no effort to climb down the tree."
