Despite the best efforts of the Houston Chronicle and a Harvard educated Mayor of Houston, (both of whom hate firefighters), And eight years of legal maneuvering, Houston firefighters finally got a contract!

Good for them. Congratulations! It would have probably been much cheaper for the city to have paid the FF’s well and given them parity with Houston Cops back in 2016 when this all started. Now it’s gonna cost them even more.

It's about time! Houston has a long history of taking the firefighters for granted and taking advantage of them. Many previous administrations have demonstrated disdain for the troops.

The old Mayor could have cared less. Finances were great when he ran the place.

Note how folks are worried about $1.5 Billion of City debt. NYC (four times the size of Houston) on 6/30/23 had $96.9 billion of debt- No worries mate!

Also, the Houston budget is $6.7 Billion (plus $2.1 billion for schools): NYC $116 billion.

HFD really has hiring problems. My locksmith was a guy at Station 21 on the D shift (and a vollie in Friendswood) who quit to work for Dow Chemical in Freeport. Every HFD academy class had someone who resigned the day they graduated to work for another department.

Hopefully, this issue will now improve.
