John Kinsel, Sr. died on Oct 19 at age 107. As a member of the 3rd Marine Division, he survived combat in the invasion of Bougainville Island, Guam, and Iwo Jima.
Mr. Kinsel was born in 1917 in Lukachukai, Arizona.....on the Navajo Indian Reservation. Although unable to vote as a Native American, he enlisted in 1942 in the Marines because he liked their uniforms. He is believed to be one of the last, if not the last, surviving Navajo Code Talker.
