Overnight Fire Destroys Commercial Building at Bevans Oyster Company in Westmoreland County
WESTMORELAND COUNTY, VA — Firefighters from multiple jurisdictions responded early Monday morning to a large commercial structure fire at Bevans Oyster Company in Westmoreland County.
At approximately 12:15 a.m., Cople District Volunteer Fire Department, along with additional county units, was dispatched to Bevans Oyster Company located at 1090 Skipjack Road in Kinsale. Upon arrival, crews found a commercial building heavily involved with fire.
Due to the size and intensity of the blaze, extensive mutual aid was requested from surrounding areas, including agencies from Southern Maryland. Fire departments responding to the scene included Westmoreland County units, Oak Grove, Callao, Fairfields, Essex County, Richmond County, King George County, Stafford County, Naval Support Facility Dahlgren, and Charles County, Maryland units from Newburg and Bel Alton.
Firefighters worked for several hours to contain and extinguish the fire, preventing further spread. No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by fire officials. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
