25 Truck seems to get relocated a lot , A few weeks ago they were at 24 , then at 24 again , & yesterday they were at 4 Truck & Now they are at 5 Truck. What happens if the Collapse Unit is needed from their Quarters is there a back up company like there's one in the Bronx like 42 Truck or 27 truck getting Rescue 3's collapse unit if Rescue is not at Quarters. If so , Who is it ? Thanks.

If 25 is on assignment L14 is the secondary unit for RC1 beyond that it goes to TL 7 or 1 and really doesn't matter because if it gets that deep there will be another RC unit coming as part of collapse task force with second rescue.

As for them being relocated, I guess L8 must not have been available.

If you saw any of the old 1950's & '60's Manhattan assignment cards I've posted in the past you'll see that L25 relocated to 2, 13, 21, 22, 23, 24, 26, 35, 40 and did not get covered until the 1970's.

Ummm, where do you get your information from?? TL-7 and TL-1 are not back ups for the Collapse Unit. If 25 is not available, we send 14 to go get it. If 14 is not available, we send 116 with RC-4, R-3 with RC-3, or 132/RC-2depending on location. Occasionaly, Rescue 1 has the Collapse rig. Secondly, depending on if it meets the criteria for major collapse will it be getting a second Rescue with its associated collapse unit. If it meets the criteria for a minor collapse, only 1 Rescue/Collapse Unit will be responding.

Now, to answer your question about why 25 got relocated. The Manhattan Dispatchers are tasked with covering firehouses when certain "Must Fill" companies go out of service for whatever reason. 8 Truck to 5 Truck isn't a really good move, considering they are right on top of each other. I'd personally go to Brooklyn for a tiller first, depending on my availablility.

10 Truck has been restricted from relocations since late last year. To add a little more frustration to moving companies around, we are not allowed to move companies scheduled for BI unless there's a fire. Ladders 2,4,7,24 and 36 are must fill/Do Not Relocate. Also, look at where 25 is quartered. They come out of quarters, go over to Broadway, and boom, they can get anywhere pretty quick. PS, believe me, we have been using other truck companies to fill those must fills as well. Speaking of 5, I have sent them up to 4 and 24 a few times.

A bit off the subject, or should I say boro. Is 251 a "must fill" and "no relocation" due to being an outlying area company who is 1st due at the LIJH complex?

Thanks for a great explanation! Just a quick question on moving 5 Truck to 4 or 24...why not always take 8 instead?

FDNY150........ Can you elaborate on relocating Units on BI & when did this come about ?

MM, yes, they are, but I think it's more for geographical reasons as opposed to where they are first due to.
Len, can't always do that. 8 may not be available, and may be on BI.

Chief, the rule came down not too long after the Deutsche Bank fire. The BI program was expanded to add a third day to the field units, not sure if that's been rescinded. The rule on our end is we cannot relocate a company scheduled for BI to another house if the company going out of service is going out for an administrative assignment. Example, 4 Truck goes out for company medicals at 0900. I can't send 30 down there because 30 is scheduled for morning BI.

Now, if say for the sake of argument, 4 Truck catches a first due job, I can relocate 30 down to 4, because it's a fire.

Thank you so much for the explanation and for clarifying everything for us. Always great to learn from those who know than to guess randomly.
