On 10-77 what is the job/s of the ladder vent support.  How many ladders can be assigned to this? Do they operate independently or under a chief/IC ?

First of all, the High-Rise units can also act as Vent Support Units (VSUs) so it isn't always a truck company. They carry fans with supplemental equipment (door chocks, hoses, CO meters, etc) to help vent a building, whether for smoke or CO. 14 of the 29 CPC Trucks can act as a VSU. And I believe there is a standard procedure for ventilation (1 fan for a 10-story building, 2 for up to 40-stories) but I would imagine they can operate however the IC determines they would be best used.

Is it a coincidence that 13 out of the 14 listed are tower ladders?
Also a coincidence that every CPC Truck is a tower ladder, except L80 on Staten Island.

Here is a brief rundown from the operational refference guide, - ventilation support specifically high rise multiple dwellings is provided by the two high-rise units and 14 of the 19 chemical protective clothing (CPC) ladder companies. The closest available unit not already assigned is dispatched on the 10-77.
Man : HR-1, HR-2, L-23
Bnx : L-17, L-33, L-51, L-58
S.I. : L-80, L-87
Bkn : L-105, L-124, L-159, L-172
Qns: L-115, L 142, L-160
When assigned to vent support, units report to the I/C with fans, hoses, eye/ear protection, handi-talkies with headsets, CO monitors, elevator keys, Irons (haligan & axe) for elevator operation, door chocks, hand lights, SCBA, and full personal protective Equiptment. The VSU reports to the I/C with 2 fans, one is used for buildings up to 10 stories and 2 fans are generally used for up to 40 stories. Two members are the vent group lobby unit with a fan placed in the lobby forcing air into the stairway, two members are the vent group fire unit with a fan normally placed in the attack stairway one to three floors below the fire and one member is the vent group roof. Upper level stairway doors are closed when posible. Fans may also be used for carbon monoxide control in attack and evacuation stairs and public hallways.

The 2 positive pressure fans carried by the vent support units are model BD27H9 27-inch 9 h.p. Gas powered v-belt drive made by tempest blower. Ther fans are rated at 24000 CFM and weigh 155 pounds requiring a minimum of 2 people to move them. Hoses are used to exhaust the carbon monoxide, headsets are required for use with the handi-talkies due to the noise.

I?m a little confused ? which is nothing new ? as to why High Rise 1 which is quartered with Engine 3 and BN-7 on the West Side has as its response area battalions 1, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, while High Rise 2, which is quartered on the East Side with Engine 39 in either BN-8 or 10, responds to battalions 2, 4, 6, 7, 13, 16.  Am I missing something?

Not positive but guessing, the opposite HR unit covers area where the primary and secondary transport companies might respond as part of the first and multiple alarm responses. Just a guess

If I had to guess High rise unit 1 covers all of the 1st 11th 15th and 8th divisions
Ans all of the 1st division Battlions 1,2,4,6,7, below 34th street Manhattan
High rise unit 2 covers the 3rd 6th 7th 13th and 14th division
Correct me if I am wrong

What are the normal fans carried by the ladder co? Do any other units carry fans other than the high rise units?
