There is great book about Americas fighter pilots called "Lords of the Sky" it covers everything from WW 2 until Iraj and Afghanistan.
I served for a short while on the Old U.S.S. Essex while it was stationed out of Chelesea Mass. in the mid 1960s at that time it was an Anti-Submarine Warfare Carrier and still had a wood flight deck. Truly men like Don McPherson where the "Greatest Generation"
