LI Pine Barrens 03/08/25 (Westhampton)

I was out near Lake Ronkonkoma earlier today. Got the alert about the Center Moriches brush job. We just got home in Hicksville when the second job in C. I. came out. Didn't see any smoke when we passed Jakes 58. Local media report 35 departments and the Air National Guard have sent assets and personnel,

Any good frequencies to monitor ?
Looking on Radio Reference there are a few freqs for MCI's and MA's One would have to be close to the AO to monitor the freqs.
I checked WwLIE.net the only report they have is that the units are having comms problems with some of the TG's

Was on way out to Water Mill in Southampton on Sunrise Highway around 1:30 Saturday and had to detour before exit 58 in Shirley and go up to LIE and go out to Sunrise via CR’s.

On way back around 4pm westbound Sunrise was open and eastbound completely closed from Shirley to Southampton.

Fire near CR31 (Gabreski Airport) was really cooking and Helicopter was dropping water on fire - had around 25 or so brush units off the shoulder of Sunrise Hwy - ready to be deployed- I think at that time they were waiting for the off road bulldozers from the Town of Brookhaven Landfill to come and help clear the fire roads to provide vehicular access.

Later around 6pm I saw the press conference of Suffolk County officials and found out that the local Fire Chief from Westhampton Beach was in charge of the operation since the fire was in their district. With the number of volunteer Fire Depts on scene this must have been quite a challenge communicating and coordinating with everyone.

Fortunately everything is contained right now and an arson investigation has commenced

I remember the Pine Barrens Fire's back in 1996.....on that Saturday morning we were heading out to the North Fork ....many F D's from outside of Suffolk were responding on the LIE (some at ridiculous speeds ).....every so often you would see a Boot or a Broom or a Cone ...even some Hose scattered along the way. Looking over toward the South Fork the sky was black.
