I have always been curious as to what the rationale was to put 225 and 107 in new quarters a good distance from their former respective quarters and organize brand new companies in the 'vacated' quarters of 225 and 107. Wouldn't it have just been easier to put 332 and 175 in the new house? Re-doing alarm assignments and administrative districts would not have been needed, etc etc
Has to be a story behind it.
I remember hearing a story to the effect that the firehouse was included with the development of that complex with the provision that it be for "existing companies" or something like that.
Did the city pay for those quarters or was it part of the deal because the city provided the land from the train yard to build that complex?

It certainly would have been simpler to make the new FH Units on Lincoln Ave 332 / 175 & leave the 225/107 Identity as they were in their existing FHs back in 1970....I do not know any specific reason for the ID switch but around 1960 when the new FH on Lincoln & Linden was planned with 225/107 moving South East to it, the idea was to provide additional Fire coverage for the Spring Creek / Starret City areas as well as the new side of Howard Beach along the West Side of Crossbay Blvd. which all were being built up exponentially from old farmlands & unbuilt lots...this plan for the FH was also on the drawing board before the Firestorm swept ENY & when the City realized what was happening they decided to keep Units on Liberty Ave & also on New Jersey Ave as well proceeding to have Lincoln Ave opened & staffed with new Units sort of bracketing ENY.......possibly because the Lincoln Ave FH was approved for the IDs 225/107 they just kept that in play ? .... it would have been simpler to change these numbers on the plans & the front of Lincoln Ave than to change many Frontpieces (at the Members expense back then before the Quartermaster ) as well as numbers on the Rigs & Tools & other Equipment .....these are my thoughts on why the numbers were as such...I was Honored to have been a LT in 332 for awhile & never heard any concrete reasons for the IDs.
