From the Long Beach FD Facebook page:
"At 6:19 pm this evening the Long Beach Fire Department received a report of a Kitchen Fire at 6:30 Shore Road on the Fourth Floor, upon getting up to the fire floor, units were met with heavy smoke, and fire within the apartment, Chief Ray Immediately transmitted a Working Fire, and shortly thereafter a 2nd Alarm due to the heavy smoke condition throughout the 6 Story Building.
Multiple residents were evacuated from the building, several treated for smoke inhalation and two transported to area hospitals. Due to the amount of aided and a potential for more a Mass Casualty Incident was also transmitted, bringing in additional EMS resources from area Fire Departments, the Nassau County Police Department and the Nassau County Office of Emergency Management.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Nassau County Fire Marshals Office, the Nassau County Police Department Arson/Bomb Squad and the Long Beach Police Department.
We were assisted at the scene by the Point Lookout Lido FD , Island Park Fire Department, Oceanside NY Fire Department, Inwood Fire Department, Baldwin Fire Department Lawrence-Cedarhurst Fire Department, East Rockaway Fire Department, Rockville Centre Fire Department, Woodmere Vol. Fire Department and the Atlantic Beach Rescue.
During the alarm the Hewlett, Freeport, Lynbrook and Merrick Fire Departments stood by at our Firehouses for any additional calls.
All Operations were under the command of Chief Hadrick Ray, and Assistant Chiefs Babich ànd Reinhard."
