We've also been to Lookout Mountain. The view from the top is magnificent, of Chattanooga and the Tennessee River is simply beautiful. We didn't take the Incline Railway; drove our car instead, and was glad we did. Beautiful old houses line the road to the top . . . I guess one of them burned in this fire; just a shame.
Lookout Mountain was also the scene of the "Battle Above the Clouds" on Nov 24, 1863, when Maj Gen "Fighting Joe" Hooker's troops stormed the mountain and seized it from Confederate General Braxton Bragg's troops.
