A large fire started Tuesday at a scrapyard in Northern Virginia. The incident was initially dispatched as an outdoor fire, was upgraded with additional companies, a RIT task force (routine for working structure fires), a foam truck, Fort Belvoir airfield Crash truck, HazMat, a second alarm structure response, additional EMS resources, and more additional engine companies. One person had to be rescued from a crane on site. That person was transported by helicopter to an area hospital. One firefighter was transported for smoke inhalation, five additional civilians were transported and more than a dozed evaluated on scene. As of 7pm ET, more than six hours after initial dispatch, crews are still on scene.
