Something Fishy...this is the third fire in a "Avalon" Property that has had catastrophic results. Last year two such properties were destroyed in New Jersey, yesterday was the third on Long Island. From what I understand, they are new "lightweight" construction, and sprinklered. These type apartments are being constructed all over Long Island and from what I notice Westchester county too. They are essentially a small lumber yard built with weathered truss roofs, truss flooring with gusset plates tacked on, "yellow" flexible gas lines. Firefighter members should note these future target hazards if they are in your area and plan accordingly...leave room for the TL!... Personally, I would not want to live in one of these stick built matchboxes, er, I mean complexes.
