All,
A deputy chief fire instructor at the Nassau County (Long Island, NY) was badly injured during a training exercise this morning. Initial reports are that combustible liquid ignited during the detail.
According to Chief Michael Uttaro, the Nassau County Fire Marshal, around 10:30 hours today, May 9, the instructor was setting up a training exercise for "shipboard fire training."
As they were setting up to get ready for the live fire portion of that training, there was combustible liquids that ignited, causing a flash fire, and the instructor sustained serious burns. The burns include first, second and third degree burns on his hands, legs and torso. He is alert and conscious with the most serious injuries to his hands and thighs.
The fire was quickly extinguished, and the nearby Plainview Volunteer Fire Department EMS transported the injured instructor to the Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow, which has a 12,000-square foot burn center.
Much more to follow. KHIYP’s.
Take Care. Be Careful. Pass It On.
