Chicago recently took delivery of a Metal-Shark Boats 38' Defiant NXT fireboat. It is powered by triple 350HP Mercury Verado powerplants and it equipped with a FLIR 400 XR Thermal imagining system and a hindge dive door. The boat is all-weather and the bow monitor is powered by a 1000GPM Darley fire pump. It carries a crew of 4, 2 of which are qualified divers.

Is the boat staffed around the clock, part-time or only as needed? I'm assuming it's seasonal because it is not much of the waterfront in the winter.

Does anyone have a picture of the new boat? Also how come more cities don't have large boats like FDNY and LA have?

Go to Chicagoarefire.com for pixs, it should come up in the search. Chicago does not need a large boat, we do not have industry on the lake like LA and NY, our waterfront is mostly recreational. They don't call it Lake Shore Drive for nothing.
