New FDNY Tillers

I agree on L52, I live in Riverdale and 52 are my first due companies. Not sure if 52s quarters can house a Tiller.

L52 had a tiller in that house from when it was built to the 1970s.

Ok, I will take a shot at it...

L52. Lots of narrow streets up there in Fieldston.
One to either L27, 37, or 38. Some tight corners in Tremont, Bedford Park/Norwood, and/or Belmont (resp.) And it could easily feed up to either Riverdale (52) or Wakefield (39) on relocation.
And maybe L29 or 49. Mott Haven and Highbridge still primarily 19th Century street grids. And access to the bridges to other boroughs.
I'm not aware of complaints from any of these companies about their rear mount manueverability. But if this discussion is about tiller's trending, why not these units?

43 Truck ( El Barrios Bravest ) had a Tiller in the 70'S 80'S Also Up on the 111th street with Engine 91 and the Disbanded 25 Battalion. It was an ALF . They switched when they moved to the new Quarters in 1972 on Third Avenue. So that quarters can accommodate one also.

That would have been my question I was thinking of 56 & 59 getting tillers but I was told there was structural concern as far as 59 is concerned

I believe u are correct about L38. Serious overhang over the cab? Dunno about L49.

As for SI, L83 can use a tiller in the tight streets of westerleigh.

I agree 38 truck should have one as 130 in college point because both trucks are on narrow streets and I would add 78 & 84 trucks in staten island

78 and 83 would be a great pick for a tiller in Staten Island. 84 really doesn't need one

Also from the staten island centennial book done in 2005 mentions ladder 82 having the last tiller on staten island

L82 can benefit too as they have very tight streets in Great Kills. Some are surprising to even be 2-way streets. As for L84, they have pretty wide streets in most of their area. Newer-developed south shore is the reason. And by new I mean last 40-50 years.

"ALL" FDNY LADs were Tillers up into the mid Sixties when LAD*1 got the first TL ...then in 1969 27-2 got the 1st Seagrave RM & TCU*732 got the 1st ALF RM then after 1970 Seagrave RMs arrived in quantity as did Mack TLs replacing Tillers.

Yes, they had 2 of the 4 - 110' heavy duty rearmounts.

Perhaps you're right. I was told it was Ladder 83.
Maybe someone who knows for a fact which it was will post.
