There is the thread going around with the new Tillers that companies are getting converting over from a rear-mount. This got me curious what was the last company to switch from a rear-mount to a tower ladder? And when?

Yes, TL 29's rig when to Lad 50 & their RM when to Lad 29. Reason - FDNY needed a Lad co without a tower ladder because of the weight of the rig that could cross the bridge leading to Manhattan State Hospital located under the Tri-bro Bridge on Wards Is. The 1st & 2nd due ladders 29 & 14) were both tower ladders at the time.

If my memory is correct the last ladder company to give up a tower ladder might have been Ladder 84.

Ladder 87 received a tower ladder in 1987.

Ladder 21 was given a Tower Ladder after the 10th Alarm, Box 798, fire that destroyed the old quarters of Rescue 1, in the Mid 1980s. (Photo # 1 below) I was a Lieutenant then Tower Ladder 21 from 1987 till my promotion to Captain in 1991. During those years and after, TL-21 was used a lot for Tower Ladder operations in Midtown. (Photo #2) shows TL-21 operating at my last big fire in Midtown, a 4th Alarm, as Captain of Engine 26, prior to my Retirment. The Lieutenant in TL-21s basket right side of basket is my friend Lt. Mike Fodor TL-21. Sadly, Mike and other members of both E-34 & TL-21 were killed on 9/11/01 at the World Trade Center. Rest in Peace my friends. Captain Bob Rainey FDNY Engine 26 retired

Yes, but I don't think that counts for this thread since that was when the company was formed.

Excellent point. Hadn't considered companies that were originally organized as tower ladders. There were four others.
