Newburgh had some beautiful old firehouses. Wasn't that department downsized and those houses closed the last few years?
A long run over Storm King Mountain for the West Point FD to be third due.

West Point FD has a 15 mile run to get to Newburgh.  Maybe 20-25 minutes, unless winter weather slows them down.  Hard to believe they are 3rd engine.  Newburgh is a city of over 30,000, lot of older buildings. Looks like they only have 2 engines and 1 truck - 1 Asst Chief; 3 Officers; 8 FFs -for entire city.  Only 2 firehouses left in city.  They must have to call FFs back in to staff reserve apparatus if the on-duty units have a job.  Pretty thin coverage.

Great info guys, thanks.

One would surmise that WPFD was not 3d due. The off duty on call shift probably activated to staff the reserve engines and truck. WP and Beacon extra E/T, maybe as covering companies.

Wonder if those old firehouses have been preserved.

Years ago, WPFD had 3 Stations.  The main one where it is today. #2. To the north of and overlooking Buffalo Soldier Field. #3 At Camp Buckner, staffed only in the summer time. All ran with leftover World War II rigs.
