At 9:53 am, the NNFD responded to a working residential structure fire in the 100 block of Hull Street.
Upon arrival, crews observed smoke visible from all sides of the home. Firefighters quickly initiated an aggressive interior fire attack while conducting a primary search of the residence. Additional crews performed vertical ventilation to support suppression efforts and improve conditions inside the structure.
Two occupants were able to exit the home prior to firefighters’ arrival. Both individuals were transported to Riverside Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Their current conditions are not known at this time. Interior crews rescue one cat from the smoke filled structured and immediately provided it with oxygen and shelter. It is being monitored on scene and care will soon be transferred to Newport News Animal Control until it can be reunited with its owners.
The fire was brought under control without further reported injuries. Representatives from the NNFD Fire Marshal’s Office are on scene and investigating the cause of the fire.
