At 10:02 PM, on June 7, 2022, the City of Newport News Fire Department received multiple 911-calls reporting an apartment fire in the 700 block of Antrim Drive. Newport News firefighters arrived on scene and found a two-story apartment building, with heavy fire coming from a first floor apartment and extending into a second floor apartment. Newport News firefighters rescued two citizens from a second floor balcony. Firefighters brought the fire under control within 30 minutes. The fire severely damaged three apartments, including the fire apartment. A total of five (5) people were displaced as a result of the fire. The American Red Cross is providing assistance to those in need. There were no injuries to firefighters or citizens. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Newport News Fire Marshal’s Office.
