Required a 1000 foot hose lay from the nearest fresh water hydrant.  The shipyard has its own fire system, which draws salt water from the Elizabeth River.  Norfolk FD prefers to use fresh water from the city's mains to minimize salt damage to its rigs, thus the long stretch.  BTW:  It was an oceangoing tug . . . much larger (about 4X as big) than those you see in New York Harbor.
