Norwich firefighters respond to basement fire
Firefighters responded to a basement fire in the Yantic section of Norwich Thursday night.

This fire occurred in the Yantic Volunteer Fire Department district but right now that fire department is shut down.
The address 20 Greenwich Ct
Norwich Engine 4, staffed with three Norwich Firefighters arrived within 4 minutes of the alarm.
Also responding was Norwich Battalion 1, Squad A, Engine 3, and Truck 1, along with Taftville Vol FD Tower 25 and Occum Vol FD Engine 41.
On arrival, Engine 4 reported a single-family dwelling with smoke showing from the basement with occupants reported out of the building
Battalion 1 arrived a minute or so later and reported fire in the basement, two lines stretched with one in operation.
A 2-story wood frame building transmitting a working fire.
Norwich Engine 2 and Mohegan Tribal Fire Department FAST Co assigned.
Battalion 1 also requested extra tankers and East Great Plains Vol FD Engine/Tank 51 and Laurel Hill Vol FD Engine/Tank 61 assigned.
With fire being knocked down Tankers were assigned to stage.
Also responding was Norwich Car 10 (Safety/Training Officer) and Norwich Fire Marshall Q-137
The fire was under control at 11:05 pm
