For those who tuned in last night for Glenn Usdin zoom presentation, he gave an excellent report on the huge delay in getting new fire apparatus.
He said if you order a pumper now, you can expect to get it in 3 years from now
A ladder truck is averaging a 4 year wait time.

As for the FDNY, they order to meet the high standards of the FDNY and before each piece is put into service - every single piece of that rig is fully inspected by the shops, from the pumps to the turn table, along with wiring and computer equipment.
Also what is carried in each compartment.
It could take 6 months or more before it is put into service once it is delivered.

His presentation was definitely eye opening. Glenn should be doing seminars for those that spec and purchase apparatus. Not so much as how to write specs. But basically an orientation to the world of dealing with fire apparatus manufacturers, the current market, how to save money on your purchase, etc. it is amazing how the whole business and process of apparatus has dramatically changed in the last 4 years. Glenn put on a phenomenal presentation last night and I eagerly await his next presentation. Thank you Atlas and John for bringing Glenn and this important info to us.

We also learned of the passing of Retired FDNY Firefighter John Riley, the senior man during his years with Engine 65.
John would always join us every month for our zoom meetings, along with his son Shawn.

Retired FDNY Supervising Dispatcher # 56, Gary G., spoke for five minutes or so as the zoom came to an end, remembering John who we will ALL miss.

Some of the things that John wrote about that he WILL Miss after his retirement:
Company Christmas Party
Company Fishing Trips
Busting up hydrant blockers
The Picnics
Running red lights with apparatus

Some of the things John WON'T Miss:
Late watches
AFID
Relocating
Washing dishes

John - It was an honor for me to know you.

Thank you for your enthusiasm and talk of the job.

*** Our Sincere Condolences Go Out to His Son, Shawn ***

Rest In Peace John Riley. It was a pleasure to have met you and shared time with you online during our monthly zoom meetings. Your contributions, stories and historical perspectives were enjoyable. You will be missed but never forgotten.

Just got back in town. My condolences to Sean and his family. Rest in Peace John.
