It is my belief that Rescue 1 was quartered with Engine 33 and Ladder 9 on Great Jones St. which equals 3rd Street. The beautiful firehouse on Great Jones St. was at one time the Headquarters for the FDNY and the fire Alarm Central Office was located on the 2nd or 3rd floor. The longest sliding fire pole in the FDNY and perhaps the world was, and I believe still is located in this firehouse. I often worked in this firehouse as a firemen and years later as a Covering or Overtime Captain. One of the last tours I worked at was on overtime what was and now Tower ladder 9.
