Only 17 blocks between one another
Its interesting that some computer programs years back indicated a need for another engine in that area after Eng 74 moved to Eng 56's former qtrs. At one time there was a Squad also in the firehouse on 83 St. So that community really lost two engine companies. In more recent years there has been an increase of high-rise buildings along the banks of the Hudson Rv. If you look at the East side, fire houses are 10 blocks apart & local traffic demands that.

The east side is a lot busier and has more avenues….. there is no need for another engine on the west side…. There are other areas in the city it could be used.

Distance between engines is not as important as demands and activity.
The distance between E264 and E328 is zero.
Which the call volume is not on the west side. And that’s the reason there is no double houses anywhere because it’s the same response time.

This is true, however mine was simply a response to a comment about distance. Regardless, East Side Fire activity is higher & area is significantly larger.

All of this is beside the point, however, because getting the city/dept to re-open a company is hard enough; there are other places that desperately need more coverage.
