Every time the Police Department has an officer killed in the line of duty, the news media always has photos and videos of the fallen officer being transported in an ambulance clearly marked NYPD. I may be wrong, but I'm guessing that those ambulances are also used for something other than transporting fallen officers. Does any one know what else those rigs are used for, where they are stationed and how they are staffed?

l  just  Googled  NYPD Ambulance.  You  might  get  some  answers  there.  Wikipedia ...    Also  sure  you  will  get  some  411  replys  here.

That ambulance is used for transportation of members, retired and active, as well as their families to and from hospital visits or transfers of P.O.'s from one hospital to another, etc. It is manned by Officers from E.S.U. who are Paramedics or EMT's. At one time it was quartered on Northern Blvd., just west of Steinway street in a former firehouse of the Long Island City F.D. Ladder 66 which I believe became 116 when the City took over. I don't know if it's still quartered there however I'm sure someone here will know.

Also somewhat related, the city has an ambulance, and a rearmount ladder truck, strictly for use on the 150th Anniversary of companies. Both clearly painted and designated for that purpose. These two units are kept at Fort Totten in Queens.

yes, originally  for  the  FDNY 150  anniversary, 2O15  correct ?  so  they will  now  be used  for  individual  companies ?    in  what  way ?

The 150th truck is probaly going back to the spare pool I assume, it is one off the early ferraras that was a lemon

The exact address is 38-13 Northern Blvd, if you look at the door on Google Maps it says Emergency Medical Squad NYPD. Going back through some of the pictures there are trucks marked ESU and EMS outside the locations.

I believe the department also has a box truck marked up as EMS for delivering o2 to retired MOS and atleast one other ambulance. From what was told to me regarding this unit is $1 is taken out of every police officers pay check to fund this service. ESU also has there own ambulance at Floyd Bennet Field and That one looks like one of the new FDNY Ford/Wheeled Coach buses. I do not know the exact purpose of that unit
