"But I would give every ounce back to have my Paul with me," Rosalinda Lipka said of her husband, Paul Lipka.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Rosalinda Lipka says she's thankful for the phenomenal support she has gotten from the Police Department, her family and the community after her husband was mortally injured in a motorcycle crash.

"But I would give every ounce back to have my Paul with me," the devastated Mrs. Lipka said, in an interview with the Advance Tuesday night.

Paul Lipka, 40, an off-duty NYPD detective, died Monday morning in Richmond University Medical Center, succumbing to the severe head trauma he suffered when his motorcycle collided Friday with a car that was making a left turn on Richmond Terrace in Livingston.

Mrs. Lipka said she's living "moment to moment" trying to comprehend the crash, set funeral arrangements and help the couple's three children come to terms with the fact that their father won't be coming home.

"People shouldn't take life for granted. You're here one moment, and five minutes later, you're gone," she said.

Lipka was the partner of Officer Dillon Stewart, who was killed in the line of duty in Brooklyn on Nov. 28, 2005. Stewart and Lipka were pursuing a car with a stolen license plate when its driver, Allan Cameron, opened fire through a window. Stewart managed to continue the chase until Lipka was able to shoot back, but realized he had been shot when he tried to chase Cameron on foot, and later died in surgery.

Lipka was on his way to work Friday morning, and Rosalinda said she had spoken to him just a few minutes earlier. "As he rode off, the girls waved at him," she said, referring to their daughters, Rebekah and Samantha, ages 8 and 6. "And two minutes later, it happened."

Lipka will be laid to rest Friday in St. Peter's Cemetery, after a funeral mass at his parish, St. Adalbert's R.C. Church, Elm Park. He'll be waked at the Harmon Home for Funerals, West Brighton, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday.

"It's surreal. . . . I saw him minutes before it occurred," Mrs. Lipka said. "I lost my best friend."

A hero cop who received the Medal of Valor for his role in disarming the Times Square bomb in 2010 has died at the age of 45.

Gregg Abbate suffered a heart attack Thursday at home after falling ill at Tobay Beach on Long Island, where he was working as a lifeguard, said his former boss, Sgt. John Ryan.

Abbate, of Massapequa, was one of three technicians who rendered safe the bomb Faisal Shahzad left in an SUV parked in Times Square in May 2010.

?He?s the one you wanted next to you when things were getting rough,? said Ryan.

If the F.D.N.Y. is the agency responsible for providing emergency medical services in NYC and CFRD engine companies are the first responders to life threatening medical emergencies in NYC ... Why then is the city of NY training and equipping law enforcement personnel for this type of medical emergency rather than the FDNY?
