OLD ARTICLE ON THE FDNY TELEGRAPH ALARM SYSTEM.

That happened to be the auction I was running and run occasionally, I was irked by getting ripped by a guy who was selling articles torn out of vintage and antique publications just to sell individuals pages. He deliberately obliterated the magazine identification printed on the pages to disguise where the pages were torn out of and a search did not reveal any articles with the title.
So I wound up buying the article and then when they arrived it turned out it was from the 1950 issue of Popular Science, what's more at least  a couple of magazine selelrs had the entire issues for 1/4 what this jerk charged for the ripped out pages.
So I decided to buy a bunch of the complete issues and sell them basically at cost, for less than his ripped out pages and when I did that his page rip auctions for this article stopped.

As it's out of copyright, I scanned the entire article and have it available as a free download, since this forum has a file size limit of only 200kb I can't attach the PDF or hi res scans here, but they are available here:

"40 second drama: What happens when you pull a fire alarm"
By Herbert Johnson
Photos by W.W. Morris

Popular Science magazine, May 1950  starting on page 162.

The VF Post used to illustrate the article was removed around 2010 and replaced with an O'Brien style post according to Google street view.

I also scanned several pages from Horni Signal's newsletter, issue 1 Nr 1 from 1943 with some photos showing their manufacturing facility, they made fire box inner mechanism for the city in the 30s/40s
the scans are here:

Then lastly,  I decided to extract a portion of the content from a silent film, dating to ca 1915 as best as I can tell since it details the "new" FDNY Brooklyn Central Office and that was built in 1913.

I extracted some screen shots from the film,  and typed out the titles/dialogue text and generated a nice PDF with the basic content outlining the film.

It is saved as a .pdf file http://midlandterracotta.com/mtc/index.php?topic=79.0

There was a similar article in a 1940's issue of WNYF also. Thank you for all the work you did posting the above article.

People are very welcome, thank you for your complements!

I just hate seeing these dealer types destroying antique and vintage magazines to sell individual pages out of, I know there's a flood of that on Ebay and my acting on one in the 100,000 won't make any effect on the rest but this was a good article on what we collect or work around, and the article should be kept in it's original context with the entire magazine. Heck, the whole magazine is interesting and I wound up even buying a subscription to it as a result of this!
