If you go to "Google Maps", enter the address: "491 E. 166th St., Bronx, NY" you will see a map with the old firehouse location indicated by a red marker.  Go to the left thermometer-looking scale and drag the yellow figure over to the location marker.  A street view appears.  You can move up and down the street, rotate left or right.  You can also move in or out with the view.  You can definately see the old quarters.  Maybe print the page.

This is same to see any of the old firehouses in the city still standing. If you use the address list from Mike Boucher's history: http://www.nyfd.com/cityhist.pdf you can find most of the old FDNY quarters in all the boros.

This is a good way to view the actual building of any job reported on this site.  Use Google Maps and the street view option. This works for a lot of other cities, too.

You can also find the old NYC volunteer houses.  Many are still standing.  Some became FDNY firehouses.  Some are converted.

I have a couple of question's that hopefully someone that may have worked at this house can help with. There is a picture of a vacated firehouse in Dennis Smith's and Jill Freedman's book, "FireHouse" on page 15. Which house was this and what was it's location also were the company/s moved to a new house or was the company disbanded due to budget issues?

Thank you blzdp and 68jk09, both where right on the money as for the location of ladder 40. The station looks good now a days. Alot better than the picture in Dennis Smith's Firehouse book. I enjoy seeing these old firehouse pictures (then and now). So thanks for your help.
