On This Day Three gave their lives in the line of duty: Captain David P. Holcomb, 52; Firefighter Phyllis McAllister, 43; and Firefighter James A. Chappell, 29. All with the Philadelphia Fire Dept. We continue to remember them and their Families. RIP.

As a F.D.N.Y. Firefighter worked on Manhattan Lower East Side, and we responded to High Rise Fires in Lower Manhattan Then as Lieutenant and later a Captain I worked in Midtown Manhattan I responded to High rise fires in Midtown Manhattan. When my grandson joined the Philadelphia F.D. I made sure he knew what I had learned about High Rise Fires. When you review the operations in Philadelphia at the Meridian Plaza Fire you understand how difficult High-Rise Fire these poor firemen had. The worst serrano, you could face in a High-rise Fire/ God Bless their courage and may we always remember them and their families. Captain Bob Rainey FDNY Engine 26 retired
