It wasn't just a part of Connecticut that was hit by a tornado on Thursday August 27th.
At approximately 6:00 pm that same evening another tornado was active in parts of Sullivan and Orange County, NY areas.
One town hit very hard in Orange County was Montgomery, NY home of member Frank Donohue, aka "fdce54", as well as many active and retired members of the FDNY.
Frank told me, that just like when the tornado hit parts of Connecticut, it got very humid and suddenly a darkness of night set in. As the storm hit he saw his two trash cans go flying by. He also lost his patio deck furniture as well. But no serious structure damage.
On the contrary, he said the house next door to him had Five large trees come down. One which blocked their front door way and caused damage to their home and another that came down on their car. Those people had just bought that house only a few months ago.
He said there was also one house on fire caused by the lightning. However fire dept units could not reach that building because of streets blocked from downed trees and wires. As a result mutual aid was called to come in from another way.
Frank said the rain came down sideways and his yard was flooded.
It is an amazing story that there were no deaths or injures reported.
Frank said this was the only tornado he has seen in his entire lifetime and he hopes that it is the last. He also said that once it was over, people came out to help in any way they could. Some working with chain saws, and even a woman from a few blocks away with some fresh fruit for the people to eat.
Once again, "Many of us just wish that we could push a restart button to begin 2020 all over again". A year that few of us will EVER Forget.
