Peoria City council has voted to cut 2 engine companies and 22 positions from the budget last night. The 2 companies, Engines 4 and 20 serve the northernmost and southernmost parts of the city. 5 members have taken early buy-outs which leaves 17 positions up for grabs. PFD has entered into a minority diversity program, the last hires were 2018. So who gets the axe, the newly hired or those with 10+ years seniority.

I know that about two years ago, the Peoria City Fire Dept was mentioned in an article that came out on Sept 1, 2018. That article had mentioned that in the last 4 fatal fires the Peoria Fire Dept, although closer, was not called to surrounding area fires.

That article in Firerescue1.com was titled: "Report: Illinois fire depts didn't call closest reinforcements in last 4 fatal fires".

Engine 4's house also has Truck 4 which is or was a quint.

Dunlop Community FPD has a station one mile from Engine 20. The next closest Peoria engine is Engine 15 which is 2.5 miles away.

Ironically yesterday there was an arson fire in unincoporated Peoria County in Dunlap FPD jurisdiction. PFD got in first in an area without hydrants, there was a delay until DFPD showed up with tankers.

Answer - Just put that Tanker into one of the closer Peoria Fire Stations
