PLAINFIELD, NJ — Multiple towns responded to help members of the Plainfield Fire Department fight a fire in a two-and-a-half-story wood frame structure on Norwood Avenue near Tate Court Wednesday afternoon. Plumes of smoke could be seen billowing into the sky as firefighters opened up the roof.
Plainfield Fire Director Kenneth Childress told
TAPinto Plainfield there were no injuries to firefighters or civilians.
"Several mutual aid companies responded to assist. Five residents are displaced and being assisted by Red Cross. The arson squad is on the scene, and investigating the cause," the director said.
Plainfield and South Plainfield ladder trucks were on site, along with other units from Cranford, Rahway, Union County and Scotch Plains that could be seen aiding to bring the fire under control.
