At 0722 hours, the Port Jervis Fire Department was dispatched to a reported house on fire on Franklin St. Assistant Chief Fuller (Car 2) was a few blocks away, preparing the boat for a water ops drill, and arrived on scene in 20 seconds from dispatch. On arrival, heavy fire was observed from the 1st floor windows on the B side of the structure, extending up the side and into the 2nd floor and attic. Engine 2 and Truck 7 arrived moments later with a full crew, followed by additional companies, and initiated an aggressive interior attack. The bulk of fire was knocked down in under 10 minutes and an additional line was protecting an exposure on the B side. A 2nd alarm was transmitted at 0730 by Chief Brown, bringing an additional Engine to the Scene from Westfall, and Standby Companies from Sparrowbush, Huguenot and Matamoras. Crews continued to work inside, extinguishing the remaining fire on the 2nd floor and attic. At 0803, Huguenot Engine 814 was requested to the scene to assist with overhaul. All units were released from the scene at 0954. The fire is under investigation by Orange County Fire Investigators, and believed to be accidental in nature. There were no injuries to occupants, however 2 pets were lost in the fire. Our thoughts are with the homeowners during this difficult time.
