Queens Dispatchers

When the second facility is done it will be able to handle the entire 911 system but will normally carry half the load. The other half will be in the current facility. Each building will be a backup to the other. As for us, 3 boroughs will be in the current building, 2 in the building yet to be built. I don't know how EMS and PD will split.

The above quote goes back to June, 2009. However, then, it was my understanding that the Bronx and Queens would share the same building for the Fire Communications Office.

Recently, myself and another site member rode by the new home for The Bronx and Queens C.O. That building appears to be just about complete from the outside. It is windowless and seems to be about the size of a 12 story building looking from the outside. We both commented that this place could handle a lot more than just those two dispatch centers. In fact, our guess is that it could handle not only the entire city fire dispatch, but the FDNY/EMS dispatch as well. Maybe even the entire NYPD system.

Can anybody advise us as to which offices and dispatch centers will be operating out of there. Maybe the entire 911 system.

PSAC 2 will have the capability to house the entire 911 system for all 5 boroughs, PD, FD, and EMS. As to how PSAC 1 and PSAC 2 will be configured when 2 is ready, no one is saying. Probably because no one planned that far in advance. The published reports are saying mid-2016. Insider rumblings say that's not realistic, maybe 2017. Maybe.

Our new CAD in still in the design phase and nowhere near ready for beta testing. It has been said that there will be no Starfire in PSAC 2 so we can't move in there until the new CADS is ready. It's been said they're going to install the new CADS in PSAC 1. I can't see how that's possible being that we're still using Windows XP -- the hardware needs to come out.

There have been rumors that everyone will go to 2 so 1 can be rehabbed. It's just a mess of rumors right now.

Based on what I have heard from people that have toured the Cube, I can say with some degree of certainty is that 2 will be just as bad as 1 when it comes to amenities, or should I say lack thereof.

As Always, Many Thanks, Frank.

As disappointing as it all sounds, it's terrific to know What's Happening. Thanks  ;)

I want to thank you also Frank.

I think the nickname "The Cube" seems to fit it well by its design.

That building will be #1 when it's finished and Metrotech will be #2 right ?

Franks,

How have you been? How come they put all the money into the Bronx and Queens CO's just to move them out to another new place? They need to go back to the 5 different CO's

It has been made abundantly clear to us (at every opportunity for them to tell us) that there will NEVER be 5 CO's again. SI was rehabbed into a backup FOC. BCO was supposed to be rehabbed into a backup EMS Dispatch center, then into a District Office. It still sits vacant with no clear path. Parks will probably reclaim MCO. As for the rest, who knows. As to why, we're still trying to figure that out.
