I saw this post earlier today on the rant & am also experiencing it myself as well as some other guys today...    QUOTE Anyone's scanner been giving them a problem - it just started today - I am only hearing the radio clicks and maybe if I'm lucky a few words of a transmission - I've used it for 2 years already in the same spot and this has never happened - even the scanner on tune in radio is doing the same thing - anyone know why?? Could it be my antenna?? Unquote.....I doubt the antenna has anything to do w/it as i was driving in different areas of QNS today & it was happening in all areas.....anybody have any ideas ?

I just recd this reply to the question on QNS radio from a FF on another site .....QUOTE.. They are phasing out  the low band 154.400 & not repairing any problems that come up w/it.  Simulcasting Queens Fire radio on UHF 482.0312 eventually low band will be gone  UNQUOTE.

Thank you Chief for that information. I will pass it along to a few of my Ct buff buddies.

Just as a point of interest, while traveling to and from NYC in my car, I can tell after several times, that the newer high band channels of 482.... have much less travel distance than the older lower band channels of 154....  As I drive on I-95 places before, I am no longer able to pick up the FDNY on the newer channels, while still receiving them on the older channels.

However, I will also add this. I have also noticed that even the power on that lower band channel seems to have been cut back as well.

The days of me driving in and hearing progress reports on all hands Box #####, in my car scanner from 50-60 miles away are over I guess. But for me, as well as a few guys that made the trips into the Big Apple with me then, "It sure was GREAT to listen to them on the way down". Guys who had never been there before hearing for the First time, Progress Reports of a Third or Fourth Alarm was always very impressive to them. We will all miss those days. For me the FDNY has ALWAYS been my favorite to listen to.

But all is not lost. For a guy like me about 100 or so miles away, "I can now always listen on line". I just hope that doesn't change.

Not sure if the problem was fixed or it was just a random thing but Queens on 154.400 MHz is coming in audibly now. There is a lot of background static and cuts out in certain spots but the transmissions are continuous and the words mostly understandable.
