News 12 is reporting that Chief of Operations Robert Sweeney will be announced as Yonkers' new Fire Commissioner next week.

"Starting his career as a firefighter in Harlem 33 years ago, Sweeney was promoted to chief of operations for the FDNY three years ago."

Best of luck, Bob. This one took me a little by surprise. And, a gentleman. Real nice guy.

Heard this from one of my buddies in the YFD last night.  I was going to post but I cant figure out how to start a topic.

That's easy, Dillon.  Just click on the "New Topic" button at the top right of the category area (the white space just above the blue-gray area) in the category you want (i.e. click on "Bronx", "Brooklyn", "National", "Apparatus", etc., then "New Topic") and you're off & running.

Update from the Journal News:

"YONKERS?Mayor Mike Spano will announce his nomination for the city?s next fire commissioner at 2 p.m. Wednesday at City Hall, 40 S. Broadway. The nominee must be confirmed by the Yonkers City Council."

Police Commisioner Garder, currently acting Fire Commisioner also, will return to wearing a single hat. Little trivia, years ago the city had a Public Safety Commisioner overseeing both departments. The position is included in the City Charter. A charter revision was held and seperate commisioner positions were established.

The best of luck to Chief Sweeney on his new job, but he is not the first FDNY officer to head Yonkers Fire.

Early 80's was Commish McGloughin, ExFDNY, believe he was a Capt.
