It's with great sadness this am to learn of the passing of Retired FDNY FF / Dr Michael Brown. Michael was the younger brother of Capt Paddy Brown 3 Truck 9/11 RIP

Michael had been battling 9/11 cancer for a number of years

Michael was a member of 37 Engine and Westbury FD. On 9/11 Michael was working as an ER Doc in Las Vegas and drove 2 days to reach Manhattan to begin the search for his brother.

I highly recommend his book "What Brothers Do" in which he writes about the days, weeks and months following 9/11 and the search for his brother. Proceeds from the sale of that book go to the Siller Foundation

Thoughts today are with his sister Carolyn and the Brown family

May Michael RIP

It is with deep regret that the Emerald Society announces the death of FF Michael Everett Brown of Engine Co. 37 (retired).
Mike was the brother of Captain Paddy Brown of Ladder Co. 3. Paddy made the ultimate sacrifice on September 11, 2001. His life was truly one of legend.
After his retirement from the FDNY, Mike set-out to become a doctor. He moved to Las Vegas where he met his late wife Janet (a nurse) while practicing in the medical field.
On the morning of September 11th, Mike was working in the Emergency Room as he cared for dozens of sick patients all the while worrying for his brother.
A day later, Mike made the decision to drive cross country in his small pick-up truck in order to help search for his Brother in the rubble of the World Trade Center.
When Mike reached New York, he was embraced and welcomed by family and friends, especially the members of Ladder Co. 3.
Mike searched tirelessly alongside the men from L-3. During his search, he grew tremendously close with the people that knew and loved his brother (on and off the job).
After a couple of months of searching, Mike had the idea of planting a tree in Central Park in memory of Paddy. The tree was placed behind the Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art, a spot in the park where Paddy loved to jog.
A month later, in December of 2001, Paddy’s remains were recovered from the site. His ashes were sprinkled around the trunk of the tree which has now grown into a strong, hearty trunk (much to the testament of Pat’s life).
The months that Mike spent on “the pile” lead to his contraction of 9/11 related cancer. Mike lost his battle in the early hours of this past morning. He was surrounded by his loving sister, Carolyn and their extended family and friends.
Mike will forever be remembered in three simple words that he used to title his book about the search for Paddy, “What Brothers Do.”
Well Mike, “Ya’ dun good, Brother. Ya’ dun real good..”
Rest now with Paddy, your mom & dad, and your loving wife Janet.
