It is with deep regret the department announces the death of retired FF Douglas F. Harkins on April 21, 2023 from his World Trade Center related illness. FF Harkins served our great department for 32 years. Prior to joining the FDNY, he served in the US Army, receiving 3 Bronze Stars with valor for his service during the Vietnam War. FF Harkins is survived by his wife Veronica, daughter Jeannine Ward, son Douglas J Harkins, and extended family and friends.

Dug was a good man and a great fireman, We worked together on Prospect Ave, Engine 73 and Squad 2. To get 3 Bronze Stars with Valor he must have been a hell of a soldier. Rest in peace the good lord is welcoming you home. Thank you brother for your service to both the Army and FDNY.
