With regret, the Department announces the death of retired Lieutenant John J. Brown, Ladder 165,
appointed October 14, 1978, retired September 10, 2002, which occurred on November 7, 2025. This
member bravely served this Department protecting life and property in the City of New York in the rescue
and recovery at Manhattan Box 5-5-8087 World Trade Center.
The heartfelt sympathy of the entire Department is extended to the family, relatives, and friends of the
deceased in the midst of the great loss that they and the Department have sustained.
Funeral Service will take place from New Hyde Park Funeral Home, 506 Lakeville Road, New Hyde Park,
NY, on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at 1100 hours. All off-duty members and their families are invited
to attend. Members are requested to attend in dress uniform.

Monday, November 10, 2025:
1900 to 2100 hours
Tuesday, November 11, 2025:
1400 to 1600 hours
and
1900 to 2130 hours
